Ray Perry's Rupp

Ray Perry sent in these pics from Australia. Not much is known of this kart's history, but it was rescued (by its previous owner) off the back of a truck on its way to the dump. Ray and pal Rob Golgini subsequently restored this '64 Rupp Grand Prix to the condition you see here.

Ray explains that it was hard to keep the kart original due to many missing original parts and much butchering by some previous owner. Rear wheel spacers were turned from solid billet by Rob, who also made the engine mount and various other bits and pieces.

Ray laments the lack of interest in vintage karting down in Australia: "Vintage karting really doesn't happen in Australia but a handful of blokes bring them out once a year for demonstration laps at the over 40's championships but that's about all." He's pleased to see that it's not being ignored in the USA like in Australia [though we're still struggling here too to establish credibility...though we're gaining ground, but very slowly].
