Press release rundown on Woodbridge Kart Club's vintage racing series

OLD KARTS GET NEW LIFE
By Wes Hughes

The Woodbridge Kart Club debuted its Vintage Kart class for the first time at its May 1999 event held at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia. First proposed by veteran kart racer Jack Foster of Pitman, N.J., the Vintage Kart class is intended to give karts and motors at least 25 years old a chance to be raced competitively amongst themselves.

The inaugural race on Sunday May 9th featured five karts, four of which were driven by members of the South Jersey Roadrunners, an Enduro kart race team who frequents the WKC series. To the delight of the many onlookers, the 20 minute race featured a Lemans style running start. The elder but svelte Foster lead the field out onto the front straightaway of the two-mile, ten turn Summit Point Raceway road course. Foster's Bug and BM motor combination was enough to power past fellow Roadrunner Gary Schenkel in his black Margay. Schenkel fooled no one with the novice "X" taped to his helmet as he overtook Foster on the second lap. The Woodstown, N.H. resident went on to take the checkered flag as Foster succumbed to mechanical woes. Rounding out the field was Dave Albright in his K88 Komet powered Margay, Bob Lilly,Jr. in a Mac powered Margay and Schenkel's son Brandon in another Mac/Margay combination.

The Vintage Class race will be held at each of the 1999 Woodbridge Kart Club events. Entry fees are $20.00 for the non-points race. Additional information regarding rules, specifications, and technical assistance can be obtained by contacting Jack Foster at mailto:foster60@bellatlantic.net.
