Vintage Kart for Sale:
Rathmann Xterminator

xterm1.jpg (95110 bytes)

In 1960, Jim Rathmann won the Indianapolis 500. Later that same year he introduced a revolutionary new kart, the Xterminator.Very unique in its construction: an aluminum monococque construction. A Rathmann Xterminator, driven by 16 year old Bobby Allen, won the 2nd Gran Prix de Karts at Nassau Bahamas in Dec 1960 .

Rathmann Xterminators are among the most beautiful karts ever built and featured prominently on this site. Check out Marc Parker's kart to see what the potential is for this kart.Parker_rathmann1.jpg (92593 bytes)
This is what a perfectly restore Rathmann xterminator can look like. Marc Parker, its owner, has turned down offers as high as $10,000 for this gem!

The kart offered here for sale has a long way to go, but the potential is there. Here are more pix and some relevant info:

The rear motor mount is not original. The sprocket is nice quick-change type. The frame has a few nibbled out areas of aluminum frame between back of seat and rear end of the kart. The rear wheels shown in the pictures (Go Power) and their tires ARE NOT INCLUDED with this kart. This kart has front wheels (they appear to be original, but I can't swear to it) and throw-away front tires. Most of the frame is pretty sound.

The seat appear to site at the correct angle (many Rathmanns are found with seats bent backward from overload, sometimes gusseted to repair etc.).The original rear scrub brakes are missing (replaced by a drum brake of dubious value) and the most obvious thing missing is the seat.

The steering wheel is original, and the steering support and rack and pinion mechanism are nice and tight (though missing the rubber booties around the tie rods). The alum footrests are there.

The front roll pan, which you can see is dented in the picture, is actually a replacement piece of aluminum which also form part of the floor pan. This was done somewhat unexpertly and will need to be replaced.

If you like resto work, like working with aluminum, and appreciate the unique history of this kart, this one's for you.

$950.
