The karting craze was flying high back in 1961 when this photo appeared on the
cover of "Racing Karts" magazine (November 1961 issue). Pictured is a Go Kart
800 off all fours at the Go Kart Raceway. By 1961, there were hundreds of kart
manufacturers. Karting was such a pop craze that karts even appeared as prizes on TV game
shows. (Jack Narz' "Seven Keys" show gave away Go Kart 800s.). A
year later, however, the karting glut did in most of the manufacturers. Even the venerable
Go Kart Mfg was dissolved. By 1963, only a handful of race kart manufacturers were still
in the game, most notably Bug, Rupp and Lancer.
