Marc Parker's Bug Sprint
Marc Parker of portland oregon never disappoints with the fine karts he consistently
submits to Readers' Karts. This Bug Sprint twin saw some real racing action at the Western
regionals in Sept '00. Here is Marc's letter that came with these photos:
Bob-Attached are three photos of my Bug Sprint with Twin MC70's. I purchased the
kart and the engines locally. I sent the engines to Vince Hughes for check up, and he
rebuilt the twin carbs, and balanced the cranks as 70s were notorious for vibrating. We
set this one up under time pressure for Phil Pfau who ran it a few laps in the Western
VKRA race held in Portland. You have to see Phil and his crew trying to start this monster
with direct drive (it's in the video). Although Phil did not complete the races because of
tuning challenges he believes these 70s will blister just about anything out there and the
Bug is a handler. Tires are Bluestreaks, paint is black powercoat, upholstery is original.
My plan is to run this kart at VKRA races next year, but with twin 101s in order to
preserve these rare and beautiful 70s. I plan to add disk brakes on front, as I haven't
learned how to corner yet, in order to stay within striking distance of Bill Rice's
exhaust. I'm including an action photo to prove that I don't hang these karts on the wall.
